- Three Mile Lake is long and narrow, with 8.7 km² of surface area and over 31 km of shoreline. It sits 20 km north of Port Carling and 24 km south of Rosseau.
Overview
Three Mile Lake has a maximum depth of just 11 m with a mean depth of 3.5 m, one of the shallowest major cottage lakes in Muskoka. The shallow profile creates warm swimming conditions; walleye, largemouth, and smallmouth bass are the primary fishery. Secchi clarity is 1.4 m, indicating nutrient-enriched water; the lake has a documented history of blue-green algae advisories, with one issued and lifted in January 2025. Echo Beach on the eastern side of Hammell's Bay is a natural sand shoreline popular with families. Water levels are unregulated and fluctuate with precipitation cycles.

With a maximum depth of 11 m, fixed-crib or bottom-anchor dock systems are the practical choice across most of the shoreline, and floating docks are generally not workable in the shallow bays. Ask what kind of dock the property has.

A 2022 Three Mile Lake Causation Study documented concerns about the Cooper's Pond Dam and downstream water level fluctuations. The Three Mile Lake Association has raised the dam's condition as an ongoing concern.
